Choosing a Topic

  1. Abortion: I'm interested in this topic because it's a controversy that cant just be summed up in a 30 minute discussion or a 500 word essay. Also because it's a very broad topic that has many different view points. It's a topic about life or death, right or wrong.
  2. Driving Age: I'm interested in this topic because it effected me personally. I was one month away from getting my drivers license when all of a sudden they added three more months to how long you must maintain a learners permit. Also because I do understand where people who say teens on the road are much more of a risk are coming from.
  3. Gambling: I'm interested in this topic because I like gambling myself, I like the risk factor. For gambling to be illegal in some cases and legal in others is very concerning to me. But I also see how in many cases gambling has lead to deaths.
  4. The Death Penalty: I'm interested in this topic, because like abortion it's very broad. It's about the system taking matters into their own hands. It's many ways you can look at the topic.

  1. I think all of these are very controverial. You would make a great essay with either one of these topics.

  2. Its good that you've kept these topics open ended. They all have divisive arguments that are pro or con. Gambling sounds like it might be an interesting one, because you are familiar with the culture (and would therefore know what you're talking about).

  4. I think your number 1 topic should be the death penalty because it is very interesting and most states have there own ways.

  5. Hi Troy,
I like topic three - gambling. It's unique and you seem to have a personal interest in it which is a good thing. Do you think we should have legal gambling everywhere? What are the goods and bads in this idea?

I also like topic four - death penalty. What is your unique angle on this?
